AthletEdge
Restraint Goal
AthletEdge is designed to allow for full and consistent material
thickness to the edge of the pavement.
AthletEdge
helps prevent broken edges typical with unrestrained athletic installations
and provides an affordable maintainable, finished edge.
*Application
Overview
-
AthletEdge is anchored into the asphalt base. Anchoring choice
(see below) will be dependent on age, hardness, thickness and
composition of asphalt base (binder) course.
- Asphalt
base (binder) course is laid on asphalt base following AthletEdge
installation instructions.

Athletic Surface is laid on base (binder) course following AthletEdge
installation instructions.
-
Weep holes in the sidewall of AthletEdge are located _”
from the top of the restraint allowing drainage from the athletic
surface.

Semi-compact backfill material adjacent to the completed installation
providing additional support.

Anchoring
Note - In all cases, it is desirable to use mechanical
vs. manual anchoring. Composition, age, hardness, thickness and
regional asphalt variables will guide anchoring method. The following
are guidelines:
- Anchor
at ends of each section in addition to guidelines indicated below.

New, softer or thinner asphalt - 3/8” x 10” spiral
steel spikes (12” on center) typical.
- Older,
harder, thicker asphalt - Hilti DX A41 Fully Automatic Powder
Actuated Tool is desirable where sufficient hold can be obtained.
1-1/2” to 2-1/2” nail (12” on center) with appropriate
charge is recommended. Contact Hilti customer service at 800.879.8000
for details.
AthletEdge Product:
AthletEdge product (height) is determined by the combined depth
of the asphalt and athletic surface.
Example: Combined depth of surfaces is 2-1/2” = 2-1/2”
